Parent Introductions

These are ideal presentations for families that are new to your school. They will introduce It Happens Education & the way we work. They are great for parents that need reassurance about the evidence & importance of this preventative & protective subject.

The 2025 Department of Education Guidance says ‘schools must proactively engage and consult parents when they develop and review their policy, ensuring parents understand that effective RSHE is important for promoting and protecting the wellbeing of all children.’

Please note that parent presentations are offered as a live face-to-face session/webinar format. Recordings are not encouraged. Please speak to us if you want to know more.

Parent Introduction to RSHE (Relationships, Sex & Health Education)

This session is aimed at parents who are new to your school community or who haven’t met It Happens Education before. In light of the updated RSHE Guidance (July 2025), this session communicates that effective RSHE is important for promoting and protecting the wellbeing of all children. There is the option of an updated RSHE Consultation survey for this session to glean parental views. Please note that communications to families about this session should inform them that this is very much an introductory session to RSHE. We can focus on why this subject is Statutory, acknowledge that it can be sensitive and challenging, how this subject is delivered at your school and where external agencies can enhance this programme.

  • Get to know Statutory RSHE & It Happens Education
  • Explore current news headlines in this space
  • Reflect on historical relationships, sex & health education
  • Consider recent data – with a focus on pornography and sexual violence
  • Young people’s voices… what they say they want from the adults in their lives when it comes to RSHE
  • Signpost to further reading/research.

Parent Introduction to Substance education

This presentation will introduce It Happens Education and reflect on our own experience of substance education. The sorts of questions young people have, current data & recent substance use trends, why substance education is preventative and protective, how to talk about substances at home and signposting for further information will also be explored.

Parent Introduction to Death education

This presentation will introduce It Happens Education, explore why death education is now included in the RSHE Guidance 2025, opening up conversations about grief & building compassionate communities.

Supporting RSHE conversations at home…

These are ideal for families that have already attended a Parent Introductory presentation.

The 2025 Department of Education Guidance says ‘Schools should take steps to pro-actively engage parents and make sure they are aware of what is being taught in RSHE. These steps might include inviting parents into school to discuss the curriculum content and the importance of RSHE for wellbeing and safety, inviting them to discuss any concerns, and supporting parents in managing conversations with their children about RSHE topics.’

These presentations are most effective when delivered to a specific parent year group, e.g. an RSHE evening for Year 9 Parents with a focus on specific topics & vocab.  It is even better when delivered just before or just after one of our student sessions. And these are great opportunity to share samples of work for that cohort and relevant & relatable tips for managing these discussions at home.

Please note that parent presentations are offered as a live face-to-face session/webinar format. Recordings are not encouraged. Please speak to us if you want to know more.
