Gareth (BA MPH) is a JNC qualified youth worker and has been facilitating relationships and sex education for over 15 years. Since specialising in relationships and sex education, Gareth has worked across private, state and alternative education schools. He has worked as both a classroom educator, a school staff trainer and a parent & carer workshop facilitator. He works to help young people receive the highest quality RSE from all trusted adults in their lives. As the Esteem Network Director for acet UK he oversaw the development of digital and physical RSE teaching resources in line with the Department for Education’s guidance.
Gareth has a particular interest in supporting young people with RSE outside of mainstream due to severe mental ill health and has worked with a local CAMHs inpatient unit to ensure all young people receive high quality RSE. Currently Gareth is researching the impact of AI in how young people experience connection and communication and exploring the impact of new technology on how young people experience relationships, identity and sex.
Completing a Masters in Public Health during the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic he has strong experience in understanding the evidence base for behavioural change health interventions and the continuing impact of transmittable disease on individual and community perspectives. His research dissertation explored the factors that influence an educator’s attitude towards teaching RSE and led him to develop his work supporting and training RSE educators. With a love for travel, his RSE work has led him to work in a variety of countries from Jersey and the Netherlands to Kazakhstan and India.
